Diving Holidays in Malta and GozoGozo is the island where time stood still and where you can still enjoy the same views that the prehistoric people used to enjoy. Fortunately, most of the island is still unspoilt by modern development. It is the second largest island in the Maltese Archipelago with a population of about 30,000 persons. It shares the same history and culture like that of Malta, but its real small size and small population makes Gozo a more tranquil island where the villages still hold their identity and diversity. Besides, all villages in Gozo are separated by farmland and this makes the island a healthier one to live in as the air is still very pure and unpolluted. The large spaces between the villages create a sense of freedom and relaxation. Some of the villages are like old hamlets dominated by the village church which is always the centre of attraction of every village.
Close to and in the same village of Xaghra, lie the oldest free standing temples in the world which date up to 1000 years before the Pyramids. The temples of Ggantija are world famous and considered as world heritage. Surely a visit to the island is a must both for people who love culture, history and nature
Set in the old village of Xewkija, dominated by the famous Rotunda Church, away from the hustle and bustle of the beaches, this place enjoys the tranquillity and peace typical of all the villages in Gozo. All rooms are very spacious equipped with private shower and toilets, fridge, tea and coffee facilities and air-condition.
Facilities: Wine bar, Pizzeria restaurant, BBQ, swimming pool and a large sun deck area, library, internet, telephone, TV lounge.
Though Gozo is so close to Malta, the underwater topography is completely different as the further north you move the better is the diving. In fact the best dive site on Malta is the closest to Gozo, that is, Cirkewwa.
Diving in Gozo is a bit tough if you decide to go from the shore but it is suddenly forgotten once you get in the water as you will be welcomed by wonderful drop off, tunnels, caverns and fish. It is not as much abundant of fish as the Red Sea but it is nice in its own way, like many say. No wonder why many keep coming back as the deep blue that one can enjoy in most of the dives is something more related to “The Big Blue” Film about Jacque Majol. The swim troughs are wonderful as is the enchanting blue colour that you see when exiting the Inland Sea tunnel!!!
The dive sites include the world famous Blue Hole and Inland Sea. Cathedral Cave, Reqqa Point, Billinghurst Cave, Shrimp Cave, Coral Cave, Double Arch Reef, Mgarr ix-xini, Xlendi Cave, Fungus Rock, Comino Caves and Alexander Cave are also exceptional. There are also three wreck dives on Gozo - the Karwela and the Comino Land have been added to the purpose sunk ferry (the Xlendi), as underwater attractions.
Frankie's Gozo Diving Centre is now a well established dive centre in a class of its own, offering all the facilities that the diver needs, in just one place - the professional way.
These facilities include a specially built deep diver training pool, ideal for beginners courses. The dive boats have been designed with the diver in mind to give extra ease and comfort during boat dives. The dive shop is very well equipped with the best brands. All PADI videos and teaching aids are to be found in the lecture rooms. Rinsing and drying rooms have been purposely built for the divers. Nitrox fills are available.
The diving centre offers dive courses from the Introductory to the Assistant Instructor Level and accompanied diving to all levels of divers. Divers are grouped according to their experience and groups are kept as small as possible for more safety and fun. There dives are led from the coast or from the boats.
