SCUBA DIVING HOLIDAYS IN PEMBA ISLAND, MOZAMBIQUE
The coastline of Pemba is a place where the bush meets the white sand of the beach. Big Baobab trees advance into the emerald blue of the Indian Ocean upon which hundreds of canoes appear daily to remember a tradition of commerce and fishing inherited by the Arabs for as long as 800 years. With a very rich forest, land for agriculture and fishing potential, Pemba is the centre of Cabo Delgado province.
Cabo Delgado province's unspoiled coastline (Indian Ocean) is 425 Km long, very indented and is completed by the Quirimbas Archipelago, its reefs and coral banks, some 10 to 12 miles offshore.
The northern frontier, with Tanzania, runs along the Rovuma River (Pemba/Palma-Quiongo border post - 480Kms). Niassa province lies to the West and Nampula province to the South.
Pemba is located on the world’s third largest deepwater harbour, just 240 km from the border with Tanzania.
Pemba is an ideal exploration destination, and is also the gateway to the pristine Quirimbas Island Archipelago, consisting of some 27 unspoiled and un-commercialised islands, which offer superb game fishing and diving.
The region is steeped in Portuguese colonial and Arabian trader history with unique attractions such as nearby Ibo Island and Mozambique Island, a World Heritage site.
