SCUBA DIVING HOLIDAYS IN MERSA ALAM

Once a small fishing village, Marsa Alam is rapidly increasing in popularity, and since the opening of its International Airport, the area is becoming a favourite holiday destination on the Red Sea Riviera. Situated near the Tropic of Cancer, Marsa Alam has a true tropical feeling, with its mangroves and palm trees, and its long beaches with fringing and barrier coral reefs. THE DIVING IN MERSA ALAM

Diving in the Marsa Alam area today is a charming and distinct experience due its sea beds that lie undisturbed by underwater mass tourism. Within 75 km of these costal marks, thus offering at least 20 different remarkable dive sites.

Marsa mubarak
This site offers 5 different underwater experiences, most of them discovered by DO. On both sides of this bay there are massive coral gardens with hard corals formations; an ideal habitat for a variety of coral reef fish. The southern part of the bay, exposed to substantial currents, is often approached by big pelagic fish.

Marsa Shoona
Offers 3 different dive sites: one closed; sheltered from currents, and two open reef dives. Large corals vary dramatically on the northern side and the southern area is also abundantly covered with corals. The most attractive aspect of this dive is the spectacular quantity of pelagic fish that seek temporary refuge from open sea currents.

Samadai,
Also known as the Dolphin House, because of the presence of a large Spinner Dolphin population who spend part of the day resting in the area. This half-moon shaped reed is famous for the beauty of its underwater caves located at the edge of the bay.

Abou Dahab
In vicinity with Elphistone, Abou Dabab bay is comprised of seven external reefs and two internal ones. These sites provide all divers with the opportunity to explore numerous coral formations with interesting circular shapes and in the surrounding area there are some submerged peaks. Reef fish are present in very large colourful groups. All of the above are easily accessible dive sites but also very interesting for more experienced divers.

Elphinstone
This reef spreads itself from North to South featuring two drift walls covered by soft corals. There are two distinct plateaus where you may occasionally encounter different species of sharks (Hammerheads, guitar sharks, oceanic white tip etc.), in addition to an enormous quantity of migrating and reef fish including: Barracudas, Surgeon Fish and Tuna.
